23.12.2024

On December 22, the official opening of the new Magadan International Airport terminal complex took place at the Magadan International Airport (Sokol). In the teleconference mode, Russian President Vladimir Putin opened a new airport.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dmitry Yadrov, Head of the Federal Air Transport Agency, Sergey Nosov, Governor of the Magadan Region, Roman Trotsenko, founder of Novaport Holding, Evgeny Yankilevich, CEO of Novaport Holding, Evgeny Chudnovsky, CEO of Airports of Regions Management Company, and Selcuk Karaca, member of the Board of Directors of the LMS Group of Companies.

Construction of the new terminal began in December 2022 and was completed in December 2024. The area of the three-storey building is 14.38 thousand square meters. The terminal, built taking into account all modern requirements for passenger service, allows for a capacity of up to 800 passengers per hour, serving passengers in accordance with international IATA standards using 15 check-in counters, an automated baggage handling and delivery system, two telescopic ladders and additional exits to the apron buses.

Vladimir Putin appreciated the new airport complex and noted the high importance of this project not only for the Magadan region, but for the whole country, and also thanked the builders, engineers, designers and other specialists who worked on the creation of the facility.

Evgeny Yankilevich, CEO of Novaport Holding: «The new airport terminal complex for domestic flights at Magadan International Airport is a new page in the development of high—quality and comfortable passenger service. The project became possible thanks to the joint efforts of the government, business and the local community.

Sokol Airport performs an important function in the transport system of the Magadan region. Connects residents with other regions of Russia. The capacity of 800 passengers per hour will increase the volume of air transportation and improve the accessibility of the region. We are confident that this project will become a catalyst for investment in the region and will help implement all plans for the development of aviation infrastructure.

Investments in the project amounted to more than 10 billion rubles. The contractor was the Russian-Turkish LMS Group of Companies, which has extensive experience in the field of airport construction. I want to thank everyone for their work on this project. Congratulations to the residents of the Magadan region!»

The uniqueness of the new airport terminal was determined by the climatic conditions of the region. The implementation of this investment project took place in permafrost conditions. To find optimal design solutions, scientific institutes specializing in the construction of facilities in the Far North were involved, and special solutions were developed for the foundation and structural elements of the building. The general contractor was the LMS Group of Companies, which has experience in implementing such projects.

Selcuk Karaca, member of the Board of Directors of the LMS Group of Companies: «As a general contractor, we have already built 5 airports for Novaport Holding – in Chelyabinsk, Volgograd, Kemerovo, Voronezh and Magadan. Two more projects are under completion – in Tyumen and Mineralnye Vody.

During the construction process in Magadan, we faced many challenges. The harsh climatic conditions and the landscape required from us not only a high level of professionalism, but also flexibility in approaches, innovative solutions and well-coordinated teamwork. Every day, 24/7, our specialists overcame difficulties, including those related to the supply and delivery of materials, given the geographical location of the facility, but dedication and perseverance allowed us to complete the project on time and with a high degree of quality.

Our team, led by the project manager, practically lived on the construction site, realizing the importance of this facility for the region.»

The architectural appearance and interiors of the terminal reflect the peculiarities of nature, the wealth of minerals and the labor achievements of the Magadan region. Some of the architectural solutions and interiors are dedicated to Vladimir Vysotsky, whose name the airport bears.
